Student Stories
Chenyan from China
Chenyan Zhou, 24, from China, studies Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Kempten. He decided to come to Bavaria, as his home university, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, has a partnership with UAS Kempten.
When Chenyan first arrived at his university in Bavaria, he was surprised that students in Germany can “leave the classroom when they feel like it and attending lectures is optional.” He was not used to this from his home country. However, Chenyan highly enjoys his time at UAS Kempten. “The other students are friendly and the professors are nice,” he says.
In his spare time, Chenyan likes visiting the university’s fitness centre, where you can work out and meet new people. He also enjoys going to events that the International Office organises.
Chenyan would advice other international students to learn some German before they arrive. “German is a difficult language, especially when people speak dialects as well”, he points out. Chenyan is glad that in university lectures professors only speak standard German.
