Hof University of Applied Sciences
Founded in 1994, Hof University of Applied Sciences offers a very attractive study environment with its modern architecture, state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories and dormitories. Here students receive a first-class, hands-on education. Practice-orientation, internationalisation (focusing on India) and resource efficiency (focusing on indoor climate systems / water) are at the heart of teaching and research at Hof University, which currently offers 29 bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in Business, Computing and Engineering.
The University's three research institutes concentrate on Information Systems, Material Sciences as well as Water and Energy Management. The affiliated Bavarian-Indian Centre for Business and University Cooperation boosts cooperation between Bavaria and India.
Hof University is well-known for its friendly atmosphere. An excellent student-lecturer-ratio allows for personal contact between students and professors, with intensive supervision and an active exchange of ideas. All lecturers have a strong academic background as well as practical experience in the industry. As a result, graduates of Hof University are ideally prepared for the domestic and international labor markets.
The University’s outlook is extremely international, with more than 130 partner universities all over the world. About ten percent of students come from abroad, creating a truly multinational atmosphere. At the same time, students are also actively encouraged to study or gain practical work experience in other countries.
The University’s language centre offers a great variety of free foreign language classes. The master’s programs “Software Engineering for Industrial Applications”, „Operational Excellence“, „General Management“, „Global Management“ and the bachelor’s program "Innovative Textiles" are completely taught in English.

Hof is a mid-sized town located in the heart of the enlarged Europe right between Berlin, Munich and Prague. Hof has a population of about 50,000 and is an appealing university town with plenty of leisure activities. To relax and unwind, there are numerous bars, cinemas and the beautiful lake Untreusee. In addition to many other cultural activities, Hof is also known for the International Hof Film Festival, which along with the “Berlinale” is one of Germany’s most important film festivals. The city of Hof is surrounded by beautiful nature. The town is located between the low-mountain regions of the Fichtelgebirge and the Franconian Forest on the banks of the river Saale, with excellent possibilities for all outdoor sports such as cycling, hiking, climbing and skiing.
The region is characterised by a high density of innovative medium-sized companies which closely cooperate with the University.
Due to its location close to the former German-German border, Hof became closely involved in the most important event in Germany’s recent history: the German reunification in autumn 1990. At this time, a new era began for Hof and the region. Since then, the city has experienced a real development boom.
With its setting in beautiful nature, its short distances, its high level of security and its numerous opportunities for leisure activities, the city of Hof offers a high quality of life. Living expenses at Hof are considerably lower than in other German cities, yet, thanks to excellent public transport connections, major cities like Berlin and Munich are within easy reach.
