Juliet in Würzburg
Juliet in Würzburg

Juliet from Palestine

Juliet Altork, 22, is from Palestine and studies Medicine at Julius Maximilian University Würzburg. She says she decided to come to Bavaria, because “it is the biggest and safest state in Germany.” As Bavaria is very international, Juliet was also looking forward to meeting people from all over the world here.

“I chose Würzburg University as it is one of the best universities in Germany with highly qualified professors and offers many practical and technical study options,” she explains.

One of her favourite things about Bavaria are the many and various accents you hear everywhere. She also admires people’s pride in their cultural heritage and the importance religion still plays here. One of Juliet’s favourite places in Würzburg is the Marienberg Fortress with its wonderful view of the city and the river Main. “I also like the Residence Gardens in the summer, which are full of colour and allow me to relax. Walking by the river Main on a sunny day is also one of the best things to do in Würzburg,” Juliet says.

When Juliet first arrived in Germany, she was particularly impressed by the Germans’ love of punctuality: “They start their day very early and are so active and serious about their lives, which are things that I much respect.”
If there is something Juliet misses about her home country in Bavaria, it’s the food – especially the traditional sweets and desserts.

Juliet’s advice for prospective students: “First, always ask about anything you don’t know. There are so many people who can help you. Second, enjoy every single minute of your time in Bavaria and try to visit as many cities as you can – it’s worth it! And take a lot of pictures, of course!”
