Augsburg University of Applied Sciences

Augsburg University of Applied Sciences has over 6,200 students, making it one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Bavarian Swabia. Its history and tradition reach back further than those of nearly every other university of applied sciences in Germany: In 2010 the University celebrated the 300th birthday of its faculty of design and in 2021 its 50th year as a university of applied sciences.

Students acquire knowledge, practical skills and social competence in seven faculties: Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Design, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Business.

Around 150 highly qualified professors, 300 tutors and 240 members of support staff strive to provide students with the best education to prepare them for their future careers and leading roles in society. Excellence in teaching and an applied approach to learning, as well as state-of-the-art laboratories, workshops and lecture halls, all contribute to excellent conditions for research and teaching.

On average, 90 percent of students at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences find jobs immediately after graduating, start their own businesses or enrol for further studies. As highly qualified employees these graduates play an important role in the region’s economic development. Each semester professors and students take part in applied research and development projects in co-operation with regional enterprises. 90 percent of bachelor’s and master’s theses are prepared during periods of practical work in companies.

Augsburg University of Applied Sciences stands for applied research and development at the highest level. As a generator of innovation the University offers its regional partners expert knowledge and customised solutions. The Centres for Mechatronics, Environmental and Construction Engineering offer special knowledge hubs. Research also focuses on “resource efficiency” (from logistics to advanced composite technology) as well as on the interaction of people and technology (interactive media, IT security). The central contact point for research co-operations is the „Institut für Technologietransfer und Weiterbildung“ (Institute for Technology Transfer and Continuing Education) which co-ordinates research projects across different faculties.

Where Tradition Meets Modernity

Augusta Vindelicorum, as the Romans christened Augsburg, is a modern city with 2000 years of history. The city is known for its historic centre, rich cultural programme and wide variety of leisure activities. Situated in the heart of Bavaria, Augsburg combines big city flair with a reasonable cost of living. The city spans an area of 146,8 square kilometres with around 280.000 inhabitants.

Numerous industries from fiber composites, mechatronic and automation to IT and communication as well as the environment and logistics make the third largest Bavarian city an important centre for pioneering technology.

Leisure in Augsburg

A visit to the Fuggerei (Europe’s first social housing estate), a detour to the Augsburger Puppenkiste (a famous marionette theatre) or a stroll through the historic city centre: Augsburg offers a wide variety of leisure activities, and not just for culture vultures. Sport fans will enjoy the nearby Bavarian Alps, with hiking in summer and snow sports in the winter season.
