Juan Pablo in Regensburg
Juan Pablo in Regensburg

Juan Pablo from Argentina

Juan Pablo Olthoff is from Argentina; he is currently studying psychology in Regensburg. He chose Bavaria for two reasons: firstly, because other students had recommended it to him, and secondly, because a lot of information on Bavaria had been distributed in his own university. “Then when I did my own research on the region, it seemed to be a great place for my first academic visit to Germany,” he explains.

On his first visit to the University of Regensburg he was overwhelmed, especially “by its international vision and the reception of students from all over the world.” He was also impressed by the university’s huge infrastructure, as well as by all the sporting, artistic and other social activities on offer.

Juan Pablo notices a lot of differences to South America, but what strikes him the most is “the remarkable combination of modernity and technology on the one hand, and respect and valuation of traditional culture on the other.” He particularly likes the Bavarian cities of Nuremberg and Munich, but also historical monuments such as the Valhalla, or large cultural events like the Octoberfest.

Naturally, he also misses a lot of things: his friends, his family, his own culture. But he declares: “it was worth the effort to expand my horizon at all levels!”
Juan Pablo’s advice to international students is: “Take advantage of all the university has to offer, and use your stay to learn the language.”
