East Bavarian Technical University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden (OTH)
When the OTH Amberg-Weiden was founded in 1994, nobody could have predicted that it would experience such a dynamic development. Today, the OTH Amberg-Weiden enrolls more than 3,800 students in 47 degree programmes offered by four departments. The Amberg campus is home to the departments of Mechanical and Environmental Engineering as well as Electrical Engineering, Media and Computer Science, while the Weiden Campus houses the departments of Business Administration and Industrial Engineering. The students are taught by 102 Professors, 324 academic and non-academic staff as well as 51 adjunct faculty members.
In October 2013, the Universities of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden and Regensburg were jointly awarded the title “Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule” (East Bavarian Technical University of Applied Sciences). The OTH is continually strengthening the practical relevance and acceptance of its know-how within the business community by working together with various companies on a great number of ventures, supported by its ten associated institutes.
Of the more than 4,200 OTH graduates to date, 80 % are employed by companies located in the university’s region. This is a clear signal for the OTH Amberg-Weiden to continue on its path towards implementing its educational and structural policy in the academic region of Eastern Bavaria, thus providing local industries with highly qualified young talent whilst ensuring excellent career opportunities for its graduates. The results of this knowledge transfer flow directly back into the university’s research and teaching, thus guaranteeing an outstanding and up-to-date education. This has been confirmed time and again by the results of the nationwide university rankings in which the OTH’s degree programmes and libraries have been able to secure top places for many years.
The respective key figures show that the OTH Amberg-Weiden provides a wide range of services, not only within its region, but also nationally and internationally. The OTH Amberg-Weiden maintains international cooperation with 101 partner universities in 37 different countries that lend themselves to studying and researching abroad.
To complement its profile, the OTH offers all of its degree courses as cooperative education programmes in close cooperation with partners from business and engineering (combined study and work programme, studies with extended practice). Hence, the four departments of the OTH offer innovative and internationally oriented education programmes of excellent quality designed to sufficiently prepare their graduates for the globalising job market.

Amberg and Weiden
The city of Amberg (www.amberg.de) has been shaped by over a thousand years of history. In its centre lies a historic market place with a gothic town hall, the Basilica of St. Martin and a number of beautiful old buildings. At the edge of the old town ring road starts the modern part of the city which houses a state-of-the-art Congress Centre.
The city offers its 43.000 inhabitants many different possibilities for sports and recreation and a lively arts and culture scene. Many international companies, such as Siemens, Grammer and Deprag are also based in Amberg, offering interesting job opportunites for students in fields such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Engineering.
The city of Weiden (www.weiden.de) is of a similar size as Amberg, with a population of 43.000. Many trendy cafés and bars and arts, culture and music events, make the city an ideal place for students. A number of renowned companies in the glass and porcelain sectors such as Bauscher, Seltmann and Nachtmann are based here. Job opportunities in Weiden can also be found in industries such as vehicle construction and engineering, polymer processing or micro electronics.
