Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences

Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) is characterised by a "green", innovative and hands-on approach to teaching and learning. No other university offers a similar range of courses in the life sciences. The study programmes, which are unique in Bavaria, cover subjects related to nature, nutrition and the environment.

At Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University students receive an education that has immediate practical relevance and provides them with a sound scientific background. It is part of HSWT's philosophy to train students for the requirements of the national and international job markets and the demands of industry and business.

Every degree course includes a practical semester. The University's so-called dual study courses are even more practically oriented: They combine academic studies either with vocational training in a company and a vocational school (Verbundstudium) or with further practical placements (Studium mit vertiefter Praxis).

Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences also offers various Master's degree programmes with an international focus. Furthermore, international students with little or no knowledge of German can participate in classes delivered in English. A wide range of English-taught courses puts the "green" focus of the university into context and provides the opportunity to learn about the many facets of sustainable thinking in various disciplines.

International students are always welcome at HSWT. The International Office offers students personal advice and assistance in the application process and throughout their degree, in finding accommodation and with administrative issues. A number of events and a language tandem program with German students contribute to the foreign students' cultural and social integration.

The University’s Language Centre offers an extended range of language courses to prepare students for an increasingly global labour market. Additionally, the Career Service provides support with internship applications and the transition from student to professional life.

Weihenstephan and Triesdorf

Campus Weihenstephan
Campus Weihenstephan

Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences offers degree programmes at the Weihenstephan (Freising) campus, at the Triesdorf (Weidenbach) campus and in Straubing.

Weihenstephan, a district of the 1,300-year-old bishop's seat of Freising, is located about 30 kilometres north of Munich. With a total of 3.800 students, it includes the Departments of Bioengineering Sciences, Horticulture and Food Technology, Landscape Architecture, Sustainable Agriculture and Energy Systems, and Forestry.

Weihenstephan is a modern teaching and research location with a strong tradition. The campus provides a friendly and open learning and working atmosphere. Picturesque town houses, famous churches and baroque buildings provide the backdrop to a lively student community. One in every seven of Freising's 50,000 inhabitants is a student. There is a range of cultural, sports and social attractions on offer and the cosmopolitan city of Munich is only a short distance away by train or the local S-Bahn rail system.

With around 2,000 students, the Departments of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition and Environmental Engineering are situated in Triesdorf in Middle Franconia, 200 km north of Freising. The campus is integrated into the training centre "Bildungszentrum Triesdorf". It offers an ideal environment for social interaction between students and a close-knit community of students and professors. The active student body organises sports, offers contacts with companies, cultural events and much more. Sufficient accommodation at reasonable living costs is available. Furthermore, the Franconia Lakes offer excellent leisure facilities – and the opportunity to study in a popular holiday region.

Straubing, with around 200 students in the field of renewable resources, is home to a new, up-and-coming centre for scientific study.
