TUM: Technical University of Munich – the Entrepreneurial University

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) ranks among Europe’s most outstanding universities in research and innovation – an achievement powered by its distinctive character as Entrepreneurial University:

Science beyond boundaries. TUM’s broad spectrum of subjects is unmatched across Europe, spanning engineering, the natural and life sciences, medicine, economics and social sciences. The university leverages this enormous potential by intensively and intelligently linking the different disciplines. In doing so, it successfully develops new fields of research extending from bioengineering to artificial intelligence. Simultaneously, it addresses the social, ethical and economic issues raised by technological change.

More than just lectures. Doing research with the brightest minds in science, steering international projects and gaining early business experience: Students at TUM are perfectly prepared for working on the important topics of our time. That is why employers regularly nominate TUM as one of the top universities in the world.

Opportunities for talent. TUM offers amazing opportunities at every level of study and research, starting with the first semester right through to professorship. It invests more than other universities in the professional development of individual talent.

From lab to market. No other German university produces as many start-up founders as TUM, thanks to its unrivalled support infrastructure. More and more companies – and not just start-ups, but some of the world’s most innovative global players – are establishing roots on campus in order to build research partnerships.

There are four TUM campuses in Bavaria: Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan (Freising) and Straubing. In addition, there is the Management Campus Heilbronn and TUM Asia, a separate branch in Singapore.

Here, students learn creative and future-oriented thinking; their education is interdisciplinary, international and entrepreneurial:

TUM not only offers a variety of degree programs and key-skill programs for students that transcend disciplinary boundaries, but by transforming its departments into schools, the university is creating a structure that further promotes exchange across disciplines.

With more than one-third international students, TUM is one of the most international universities in Germany. Numerous degree programs are offered entirely in English. TUM promotes the international mobility of its students not only with various exchange programs, but also with its participation in the EuroTeQ initiative to create a common European campus for engineering education.

Over 70 start-ups are created at TUM every year. This makes it one of the universities with the highest number of start-ups in Europe. Founders benefit from comprehensive consulting services, targeted research and qualification, and the university's strong network in business and society.

Munich is a place to enjoy: The Oktoberfest might be Munich’s most famous attraction, but this city has so much more to offer. Take a walk through the vast English Garden at sunset, one of Europe’s largest parks. Meet with friends in the shade of a chestnut tree in one of the city’s many beer gardens.

Munich is a safe city – with one of the lowest crime rates in the country according to official police statistics. So dive into Munich’s buzzing nightlife the whole year through. Cheer for your football team in the Allianz Arena when the FC Bayern hosts a Champions League match. Enjoy world-class art in the Pinakothek galleries, which feature paintings by Dürer, Rubens, van Gogh and Picasso, only steps away from TUM’s main campus.

The Alps are an absolute must-see. From the city they can be seen rising in the distance. Get on the train, and in just about an hour you are there. Go skiing there in winter or hiking in summer.

Sports on Olympic facilities: Whether you study sports or not, every member of the university may use the futuristic facilities that were built for the Olympic Games of 1972. Today they form the university sports grounds. University teams from Munich compete on both national and international levels.
