Katholische Stiftungshochschule München (KSH)

Katholische Stiftungshochschule München (KSH) is a nationally and internationally renowned university of applied sciences, which is funded by the Catholic Church. It specialises in social, nursing and pedagogic professions. The university offers bachelor courses in Social Work, Nursing and Religious Pedagogy, after which the university’s 2,400 students can also choose among a number of master’s programs.

In 2018 a bachelor course in childhood pedagogy (fulltime) started. The two bachelor programs Social Work and Religious Pedagogy and Ecclesiastical Education can be combined - this joint program results in two independant degrees. Starting from the winter semester 2014/15 the course will be offered at the University's campus location in Benediktbeuern. Students can also profit from the portfolio of further trainings and qualifications: for instance, students can get additional qualifications in the areas of theology, musical pedagogy (MUZA) and experiential education (EPZ).

KSH has two campus locations, one in the in the city-center of Munich (in the area of Haidhausen) and one in the Baroque monastery of Benediktbeuern. The monastery was built by the Benedictines 1,250 years ago and today is administrated by the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

Students particularly benefit from the academic excellence and personal atmosphere at KSH. The University offers professional and dedicated supervision, allowing students to exchange ideas directly with professors and teaching staff.

The approach to teaching and learning is academic but also practical. As a University of Applied Sciences, KSH has maintained close links and co-operations with institutions such as charities, public providers and clinics in the areas of Social and Health Care for many decades. These connections ensure the most practical application of courses for students.

The "Institute for Continuing Education" (IF) is an affiliated institution of the University. It offers a portfolio of academic courses for professional development and continuing education and master’s degrees.

Benediktbeuern and Munich

Campus KSH Munich
Campus KSH Munich

The campus of KSH in Benediktbeuern forms part of a historic monastery building that was built by the order of the Benedictines more than a thousand years ago. These surroundings certainly give the department its special charms. Behind the spires of the basilica rises the “Benediktenwand”, with a height of 1,800 metres, one of the most well known mountains in the Bavarian Alpine foothills.

On the roof of the building storks nest all year round and the monastery lies next to a vast nature reserve. Apart from the University, other social institutions such as the Zentrum für Umwelt und Kultur (ZUK) (Environmental and Cultural Centre) or the Jugendpastoralinstiut (Youth Pastoral Institute) are based on the monastery grounds, managed by the order of the Salensians of Don Bosco.

Nearby are several lakes and university life also takes place in the large monastery court yard, the “Stüberl” and cafés. Many students live in shared accommodation in the centre of Benediktbeuern, a small town of 4.000 inhabitants.

Campus in Munich:
The University’s Munich department is based right in the city-centre, in the district of Haidhausen. Here, on the grounds of the Church Centre of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, different generations meet. Apart from KSH several schools and other church institutions are also based at the Centre. Right in the middle of the campus is the campus church, where cultural events also take place.
